October 19th! R4S

Welcome back!

Today you will begin on your project for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. You have been given a hand-out for this but I have also attached it to this blog.


Look at the following sign and tell what needs to be done to correct the sentence:





a. change Pump's to Pumps
b. change Card's to Cards
c. change In Side to Inside
d. change You're to Your

HINT: There may be more than 1 correct answer. Please post your answer in the comments box. You must include your first name and last initial in order to get credit. Remember to choose "anonymous" from the drop down menu.

TOONDOO DIRECTIONS Today you will be creating a 10 page story book online that shows, through pictures, the story of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian (TATDAPI). The first page of your story book will be a title page introducing your book. The rest of the book will be pictures. Try not to use a lot of words in your story book. You should only have words on 5 slides. These can be dialogue or explanations of what’s occurring in the scene. You will complete your story book at www.toondoo.com. (If you do not have an AUP and cannot get onto the computer, you will

1. Go to www.toondoo.com.
2. Click register (in the upper right hand corner).
3. Create a user id, password, and enter a valid email address.
4. Log in with your new user id and password.
5. Go to “Toons,” click on “My ToonDoos.”
6. Click to create a new toondoo.

7. Select the layout that looks like:
8. Create your characters (toondoos).
9. Drag your mouse to the “characters” icon in the top left corner (Looks like 2 people standing side by side).
10. Pick a gender/age. Remember, you are creating characters from TATDAPI
11. Once you have selected a character, click on the picture and drag it to the layout.
12. You can change your character’s emotion/posture by clicking the icons at the bottom of the screen.
13. Once you have created your characters, insert a background into your layout. To do this drag your mouse to the icon tab (next to the character tab) and select the type of background you want (fantasy, outdoors, indoors, etc.).
14. You can also include props in your pictures (just drag your mouse to the props icon tag- the box next to the background tab).
15. Once you are finished with your first picture, save it and move on to the second.
16. If you want to delete a picture or something in the picture, just click on it and drag it off screen, or click the X at the bottom of the page.
17. To save your picture drag your mouse to the icon in the upper left corner of the page (it says “ToonDoo Start Here”) and click the save icon. Make sure that you save it under the title Indian and with the tag RFS/Eng 1 and your LAST NAME (i.e. mine would look like RFS/Eng1Meyer).
18. Make sure you save it as “Public.”
19. Once you have finished all 10 pictures exit out of the creator page (make sure you stay logged into the website, just get out of the creator- the pop up screen).
20. Click on the book maker icon towards the upper right corner (it looks like a book).
21. Drag your pictures onto the pages in order.
22. When you are finished give your storybook a title and a short description. For a tag write RFS/Eng1 and your LAST NAME.
23. Once you are finished click “Publish.” Make sure you publish your story book as “Public.”
24. Make sure to log out when you are finished.
25. When you are done fill out the bottom of this form and give it to me (see handout for the form)
